Custom Smith & Wesson Shield X Holsters

DME Holsters offers custom holsters for the Smith & Wesson M&P Shield X 9mm, including the standard Shield X, Shield X TS (Thumb Safety), and Performance Center Shield X Carry Comp.

The Shield X is the latest evolution of Smith & Wesson's Shield platform, featuring a 3.6-inch barrel, optics-ready slide, integrated accessory rail and updated frame design. Because the Shield X differs from earlier Shield and Shield Plus pistols, it is important to select the Shield X when ordering your holster.

Shield X Models Supported

DME Holsters supports the following Smith & Wesson Shield X configurations:

  • Smith & Wesson M&P Shield X – Standard / No Thumb Safety
  • Smith & Wesson M&P Shield X TS – Thumb Safety
  • Smith & Wesson Performance Center M&P Shield X Carry Comp
  • Performance Center Shield X Carry Comp TS – Thumb Safety

The 10-round compliant versions use the same basic Shield X platform and should be ordered according to whether the firearm is the standard Shield X or Performance Center Carry Comp and whether it has a thumb safety.

Shield X Performance Center Carry Comp Holster

The Performance Center Shield X Carry Comp uses Smith & Wesson's integrated PowerPort system with a ported 3.6-inch barrel and corresponding slide opening. Unlike an add-on compensator that extends beyond the end of the slide, the Carry Comp system is incorporated into the Shield X itself.

When ordering, select the Performance Center Shield X Carry Comp option so we can build the holster for the correct Shield X configuration.

Shield X TS – Thumb Safety Holster

Smith & Wesson also offers the Shield X with a manual thumb safety, commonly identified as the Shield X TS.

If your Shield X has the factory thumb safety, select the TS / Thumb Safety option when ordering. This allows DME Holsters to account for the safety and surrounding controls when building and finishing your holster.

Optics-Ready Shield X Holsters

The Shield X is designed for modern carry optics using an RMSc/K-style optics footprint. DME Shield X holsters can be configured with an optic / red-dot cut for customers using a compatible mounted optic.

Our optic cut extends to approximately the ejection-port area, providing clearance for most common red-dot configurations without affecting holster fit.

Shield X Light-Bearing Holsters

The Shield X includes a compact accessory rail for compatible weapon-mounted lights and lasers.

When ordering a light-bearing Shield X holster, select the exact light or laser combination shown on the product form. Light-bearing holsters are molded around the firearm and the selected accessory as a combination.

DME does not use generic light-bearing molds or assume that similarly sized lights will fit interchangeably.

Available Shield X Holster Styles

Depending on your selected configuration, DME can build your Smith & Wesson Shield X holster in several carry styles, including:

  • IWB – Inside the Waistband
  • AIWB – Appendix Inside the Waistband
  • Standard OWB – Outside the Waistband
  • Pancake OWB / IWB

Right- and left-hand configurations are available.

Made Specifically for Your Shield X

DME Holsters does not rely on one universal mold to cover dozens of different firearms. Our holster molds are created in-house using 3D scanning, CAD design and 3D printing, allowing us to build around specific firearm and accessory combinations.

Each holster is individually formed and fit-tested before shipment.

We try to use .080 Boltaron whenever possible for our IWB, AIWB and Pancake holsters. Our Standard OWB holsters use heavier material designed for that carry configuration.

Order Your Smith & Wesson Shield X Holster

Use the options above to configure your holster for your specific firearm.

Be sure to identify whether you have the:

Standard Shield X,
Shield X TS / Thumb Safety, or
Performance Center Shield X Carry Comp

and select any installed light, laser or other applicable options before placing your order.

Holster description

Standard IWB

Use: Concealed carry, Non-Tuckable, Comfort level 7
Concealability 8 (add the mod wing you could push it to 9.5)

The Standard IWB is a “Taco” holster designed to be carried at 3 or 4 o’clock with 15° cant. However, can be ordered at 0° cant for 1 o’clock appendix carry. Holster is non tuck-able, what this means is that you cannot tuck a shirt in over the gun. It’s designed to have a shirt hang/drape over the holster. All DME Holsters are designed with a full sweat guard, inside mag release uncovered, adjustable retention, trigger guard covered, and barrel enclose with a quarter inch slit for cleaning. Made out of .080 Kydex/Boltaron.
Available belt attachments: FOIM belt clips in 1.5” or 1.75”, 2 Soft belt loops accommodate up to a 1.75” belt. Belt attachments are attached to the top of the holster.
Available left or right-handed

The Mod Wing

For extra concealability you can also order the Mod Wing. The Mod Wing is a piece of concealment enhancing hardware, and it allows a user’s belt to apply additional leverage to rotate the holster and the grip of the gun towards the body. This creates better concealment and less printing of the firearm/Grip. Interchangeable inserts allow the user to choose a strong medium or mild rotation, based on the user’s attire. The mod wing is an independent piece of hardware that can be removed if ordered with the holster. The Mod Wing cannot be added to holster if it was not originally ordered with one. Holsters are cut differently without the Mod Wing.

AIWB IWB Attachments

Standard OWB

Use: Opened carry, Range holster, Duty holster, Comfort level 9, Concealability 3

The Standard OWB has the same design characteristics as the Standard IWB. The holster looks the same as the AIWB or IWB. The differences are in the belt attachments and material thickness. The standard outside the waistband holster is made out of .093 Kydex/Boltaron. When possible, belt attachment points are reinforced. This is the weakest part of the holster. This reinforcement eliminates that.
Available belt attachments Combat loop, Tek-Lok, Drop & offsets, Paddles, TIMMS system QLS System Speed Clips and a few others. Most will accommodate up to a 2” belt.
Holsters can also be ordered with level ll retention.

OWB Attachments

Pancake Holster

Use: Open carry, Concealed carry, Comfort level 8, Concealability 6.5-8.5

The Pancake holster has all the same design characteristics as the Standard IWB. The difference is that it is not a “taco” holster. The gun is sandwiched between two pieces of .080 Kydex/Boltaron and riveted on the sides. (Maybe it should be called a sandwich holster.) Weight of the gun is distributed over 4 to 6 inches. Our pancake holster design is slightly different than most.

For belt attachment we use the BT Mod-Lok System. This allows us to keep the footprint of the holster as small as possible. The gun is generally straight up and down in the holster.  Mod -Lok belt attachments are attached to the rivets. Depending on how many rivets are forward or back of the holster, ride height can be adjusted simply by moving the Mod-Lok up or down the rivets. Cant is achieved by offsetting the belt attachments. Holsters are shipped with belt attachments offset ¾ of an inch which is about 10° cant. The pancake holster can also be converted into a inside the waistband holster. (IWB). With the use of  the IWB Mod for an additional cost. You may also need to round some of the lower corners on your holster to aid in comfort while wearing it inside the waistband. This can be done simply by sanding. Start with 220 grit then 400. Available left or right-handed.

Belt attachments

There are four different belt attachments belt loops that can be used with the Mod-Lock system. Swapping the belt mods takes about two seconds.
